MBFWA: The New Generation Shows

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia isn't just about celebrating the collections of well-known labels, it's also about showcasing new talent in the Australian fashion sphere. The following designers and labels all made an appearance as part of the New Generation Shows last week at the MBFWA. All images have been contributed by photographer Dan Hilburn.

Desert Designs:
For the Desert Designs show, the clothes were all about bright colours and quirky prints. Think tribal mixed with dream time patterns. While some garments were deliberately worn together to clash in an eclectic sort of way, others were matching from top to bottom, creating coherence and repetition of shapes and lines.

Faddoul:
The Faddoul show’s designs were all about soft pastels mixed with neutrals of black and white. A modern, romantic look was achieved through delicate floral patterns, frilled hems and sheer chiffon.

N&S:
N&S kept their designs edgy, with deliberately uneven hemlines, sheer garments, studs, and spikes. Bright pops of colour, such as lime, cobalt blue, and red, were teamed with white. Skull motifs and animal print garments also made an appearance.

Tristan Melle:
The Tristan Melle show embodied a modern safari, with garments containing animal prints, slouchy high-waisted trousers, and chunky belts. White, brown, yellow, nude, and gold were the colours of choice.

Jamie Ashkar:
Jamie Ashkar’s designs were a mixture of plunging and high necklines, as well as both short and long hems. While some garments seemed to be inspired by the comfort of sportswear, others were more luxurious, containing soft ruffles, or peachy prints.

The Letter Q:
The Letter Q’s garments were all about neutral colours, such as black, white, and grey, teamed with some sparkle. Sheer fabric, as well as cut-out designs and lace overlays all made an appearance.

Betty Tran:
Betty Tran’s designs were inspired by the ladylike fashion of eras gone by, while some contained metallic baroque-inspired patterns. Colours such as orange, blue, green, red, and gold were the focus of the designer’s garments this season.

Zhivago:
Zhivago’s show was all about structured garments and crisp silhouettes. Shoulders were emphasised with padding and some hems even had a deliberate split. Gowns carried an extra wow-factor, made completely from glittery fabric, while others were all white, except for an unexpected pop of colour down the back.
