With pen poised and watercolours at the ready, Norwegian artist Esra Roise is translating the wild innocence of youth into eye-catching artistic creations. This freelance illustrator thrives off the strange, odd and imperfect. Whether her drawings contain recognisable celebrities, personal friends or even the odd bug or two, Esra's works are both shocking yet utterly beautiful.
Drawing upon her training at The Einar Granum School of Art and Academy of The Arts in her Norwegian hometown of Oslo, Esra has worked extensively since 2008 on refining and developing her art. Each work from this incredible artist is unsettlingly realistic, effortlessly capturing the intricate details of the human form. These perfectly replicated figures, however, appear wickedly twisted and manipulated by Esra's vibrant and fascinating imagination. This combination of the absurd with the lifelike produces one-of-a-kind illustrations, so captivating that the viewer cannot help but be drawn deep into them.
Esra states her inspiration is taken from "people around me, the fashion industry, music, awkward moments and imperfections". With this creative vision in mind, Esra has already scored work with impressive names including VOGUE (China), Nylon Magazine, NIKE, GQ and LEVI's just to name a few. Her designs have also been showcased in exhibitions in numerous countries such as the US, Brazil and United Kingdom. From these early signs of success it appears Esra has big things ahead of her, and we wait with baited breath for more creations from this amazing individual.
