Featured Artist: Bonnie Hislop

The human imagination has the ability to produce some of the most wonderful and innovative creations. Illustrator and Brisbane-based artist Bonnie Hislop is testament to this notion, drawing upon her own thoughts to generate a range of truly inspired artistic works. With a fearlessness and uninhibited courage to dive head first into her art, Bonnie has been working for the past three years to foster and develop her skills with some truly impressive results.
Using a vibrant colour palette and an intricate sketching style, Bonnie’s artworks feel like a child’s glittering thoughts brought to life. Her latest creations see whimsical objects such as feathers, flowers and mushrooms beautifully incorporated into hand-drawn portraits. Each tells a story, bursting with a unique spirit shown through the vivid shading and stylistic choices made by Bonnie.
In her own words, Bonnie describes how her childhood experiences have spurred on her latest artistic ventures, stating “my mother discouraged my sister and I from using colouring-in books and encouraged us to ‘draw outside the lines’ and create our own imaginary worlds without boundaries.”
The past twelve months have seen Bonnie’s incredible talents attract enormous attention, notably chosen as a director's highlight which saw her work showcased at the RAWards ceremony in Brisbane earlier this year. The future is certainly looking bright for this emerging creative, and we cannot wait to see what else this artist has in store for the years to come.
We urge you to head over to Bonnie’s website and Facebook page to have a scroll through some of the lovely illustrations this artist has to offer.
