As lovers of all things dreamy and whimsical, you can imagine our delight upon being introduced to Buenos Aires-based fashion label Lulú Martins and their latest Fall / Winter 2014 campaign titled 'Enchanted Garden'. Set among overgrown vines and branches in a beautiful, rambling old house, this fashion campaign is sure to enthral those who set eyes on it!
Lulú Martins is described as "Handmade clothing, with loads of love", and Whim was recently lucky enough to interview the talented and charming designer behind the ethereal label - Luciana Martins.
Q: When did you first discover your love for fashion design?
A: I first discovered my love for fashion when I was a little girl, I grew up watching my two grandmothers embroider dresses and knit sweaters. Both of them are talented ladies. Besides my mother learned how to sew with my grandmother, so when I was about 13 I bought my first Vogue magazine, and drove my mother crazy making all types of dresses for me. That was when I discovered that I didn’t have to wear all those boring clothes my teenage friends wore, instead designing my own ones.
Q: What are the three words that best describe your fashion label Lulú Martins?
A: The best three words might be: Dreamy, whimsical and pink.
Q: Your Enchanted Garden F/W 2014 campaign looks amazing, and we are completely in love with it! Where did the inspiration for this campaign come from?
A: Enchanted Garden is one of the most accomplished campaigns I made since I started. It came right from the inside of my heart. I grew up as a child without having a TV so I had plenty of time to read, and spent the rest of the time playing in my garden and taking care of my orchard (my mom says I have green hands, and I can make anything grow). I used to read all day long, every book I had in my library, and that is quite a lot. I think great part of my dreamy ideas come from the books I read as a child. My favorites were obviously fairytales. So this campaign was all about the novel: The Secret Garden. I made a garden inside a house, and I wanted it to look as if it was an abandoned house in which a magic garden grew wild and a girl discovered it.
Q: Please describe what a typical day as a fashion designer involves for you?
A: I stay at my studio mostly; it is my favorite place and my working ground. My day should be described like this: I wake up, drink a lot of tea, and start working (cutting patterns or drawing new ones); during the afternoon I dedicate myself helping my sister with her photography projects or doing needlework. Then it´s tea time again and time to water my orchard and the rest of the garden. So that’s a typical day in my life! Quite dull for most people, but I love it.
Q: What do you hope to achieve in the not-too-distant future with your fashion label Lulú Martins; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us?
A: My plan for the future is to keep working on my brand designing party and bridal dresses mostly, and selling them overseas, for instance we have plans to develop a market in Brazil. And in a not too distant future we are planning the summer scenario we are going to build.
We want to extend a huge thank you to Luciana for taking the time to share her stunning label with us, as well as her inspirational and motivational interview answers. We also encourage you to 'like' the Lulú Martins Facebook page in order to keep up-to-date with the label's beautiful creations. Enjoy!
