Featured RAW Sydney Artist: Jess Chen
With notebook in hand and an imagination bursting with ideas, illustrator Jess Chen is certainly making her presence known as an emerging and independent local artist. At just 22 years old, Jess is acutely aware of the challenges of making it in the creative world, but isn’t going to let this get in the way of her artistic endeavours. With immeasurable drive, passion and dedication to her work, the hand-crafted illustrations Jess has produced so far are just a hint as to the incredible creations we can expect to be released in the years to come.
Whim was lucky enough to chat with Jess herself at the latest RAW Sydney Artist showcase late last month, and found out about the inspiration and influences behind her work. Surrounded by her prints featuring dreamy galactic designs, sweet fury friends and finely featured figures, we instantly were drawn in by Jess’ magical creations.
And most notably, this artist’s dreams for her future are just as bright as her glorious illustrations. Capitalizing on her social media reach, Jess hopes to network her way to gaining representation from an illustration agency and transform her passion into a feasible career. Outside of her illustrating, Jess continues to work and excel in a number of other creative fields including blogging and writing.
