Featured Photoshoot: 'Pastel Tresses' & an Interview with Designer / Stylist Jane Noriega
It's all about pastel pink and purple tresses, mermaid inspired garments and beautiful, natural surroundings on the Whim blog today, with this incredibly beautiful photoshoot styled by accessories designer Jane Noriega. Jane's love of fashion design and styling is evident in this shoot, and the multi-talented individual is also responsible for creating the gorgeous necklace and two-piece suit, as well as customising the sunglasses with floral embellishments.
It is creatives such as Jane who constantly inspire us here at Whim, and whom we feel honoured to be able to feature to you on our blog. Whim was even lucky enough to ask the stylist and fashion designer some questions about this shoot, her career, and dreams for the future, and we hope you find this as delightful to read as we did!
.
Q: When did you first discover your love of accessory design?
A: I've always been fond of creating even at a young age. My mom is a "Crafter" and a small business owner, so you can say it is in my blood.
Q: How would you describe yourself in just three words?
A: Creative, Resourceful, and Inspired
Q: We absolutely love the styling of this photoshoot, and are particularly impressed by your own handmade touches to this shoot (the two-piece outfit and embellished sunglasses are beautiful!). Please tell us a little about the experience you had whilst working on this shoot?
A: Thank you! I actually decided to make this two piece from excess fabric originally used to make the necklace. I recently discovered that I like to sew (I'm used to making accessories, and dreading sewing) so I figured why not use the extra fabric and make a matching outfit. Laura, the Photographer saw the outfit after I posted a picture to instagram and we started the planning from there. We got a team together in two weeks. Ania did the makeup and hair-styling and Laura helped color the model, Marine's hair with Sexy Hair Chalk bought specifically for this shoot. We were adamant about the pastel hair. Laura's a great photographer so it didn't take very long to capture this.
Q: What does an average day in the life of Jane involve?
A: A lot of creating. I'm inspired by almost anything. I also love every medium of art. At this time in my life I'm really focused on fashion and design. However if I'm not locked in my bedroom-studio creating, I'm either at the skatepark or a meeting with a photographer, designer, or someone in the industry. I've gotten really busy in the past few months, but I thank God because that's a good thing!
Q: What inspires your designs the most?
A: Things that I love, things I find beautiful, life in itself, but mostly nature subtly inspires me. We live in a beautiful world, although we may not always be able to interpret its beauty. I'm thankful everyday that I can wake up in this world. Although it isn't what it used to be, we can still be amazed by things we see everyday or something we never knew existed. I appreciate it for what it is and try to enjoy it while it lasts. I encourage everyone to take better care of the Earth so that we can enjoy it longer and allow future generations to appreciate it as well.
Q: Last but not least, what do you hope the not-too-distant future holds for your career; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us?
A: I hope to continue to do what I love and inspire those around me. I just want to get better at what I do and set the bar higher for myself and my work. Among working on different projects and collaborations, I do have a project I'm working on that I'm really excited about. I won't be finished for a couple of months but I give you all a tiny hint, it's inspired by the sea.
