Featured Collection + Lookbook: Alana Aoun Couture
We've been so excited to be able to showcase Alana Aoun's new couture collection here on the Whim website, especially since Whim's Editor was lucky enough to attend the collection shoot and witness all of the magic behind-the-scenes some weeks ago. It was a wonderful experience being able to see these gorgeous gowns close-up and 'in the flesh' - The quality of craftsmanship and detail in Alana Aoun's garments is certainly not something you come across everyday. It was also breath-taking to be able to see talented photographer Laura Marii work her photographic magic for this shoot - Whim has certainly been long-time fans of her amazing work on Instagram.
Designer Alana Aoun is one of those rare and determined souls who had already known by the age of just eight that she would grow up to pursue fashion design. As a young child, Alana would craft garments for her sisters from remnant silk her mother used to buy from the local flea markets, and later as a young adult, she began studying fashion in Paris.
After working in numerous prestigious and big-name fashion houses in Paris, Alana had learnt a wide array of traditional French techniques, including 'moulage’, tambour beading, and embroidery. These impressive and eye-catching details can be found on many garments in her latest couture collection, making each stunning gown a true work of art.
Now based in Sydney, Alana's gowns have not only graced the catwalks of Paris, but they have also adorned Sydney’s most beautiful brides. “I challenge myself as a designer to push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship beyond what is expected to create a unique vision of beauty," explains the designer, and as a result, her trademark style of opulence and lavish embellishment is now something she is well-known for.
Alana's website explains the complexities of Couture, stating: "The skill of a Haute Couturier lies in the ability to take a concept of colour and form and expand it to the highest level of fashion possibilities. A gown of haute couture status is the result of a cautious process of planning, refinement and construction. The process can easily involve hundreds of hours of hand crafting and fitting before the carefully crafted silhouette is complete."
We take our hats off to the extremely talented individuals all involved in this beautiful shoot, and want to thank Katherine, Alana Aoun's Marketing and PR, for inviting Whim along to view this special collection. We also encourage our readers to view more from this amazing label by visiting the Alana Aoun website, Facebook page and Instagram (@alanaaoun) - This label is beauty and inspiration at its finest.
