Photoshoot: ‘Winter Solstice’ by Peppermint Wind Photography
A beautifully elusive lore and folk art narrative surrounding the Winter Solstice was carefully crafted by Shanna McAfee, the talent behind Peppermint Wind Photography.
Traditionally focusing on wedding photography, this was her first conceptual shoot, and she successfully draws us into the whimsical tale of the longest night of the year, December 21st. Afforded with the strength to stir dreams and wishes into reality, it is said that manifestation is at its peak on this “Mother Night”. The model depicts women who epitomize the process of rebirth: the function of pushing out what no longer serves us, and embracing the promise of the new.
Elements such as the flower crown were carefully designed by the photographer, as well as the tulle skirt with colours of the full moon as it travels throughout the night sky. Shot specifically on the night of December 21st, Shanna consciously chose the “Ancient Oaks” setting to magnify the essence of the transformative night.
Recognisable in all her work is the appreciation for beauty. To see more, please visit her website or you can also follow her work on Facebook or Instagram.
