'The Wanderer': a Collaboration between Whim Online Magazine + TarpHat.co.uk
With the images in this blog post, we aimed to capture the hardy, outdoor-loving nature of this unique hat from The Amazonas Brazilian Tarp Hat Company. For this collaboration, not only did we want to show off the Tarp Hat in all of it's environmentally-friendly glory, but we also wanted to add our very own 'Whim touch' whilst celebrating the beauty of the Australian bush. A big thank you goes to my dear friend Natalia for agreeing to be the lovely model for this shoot - She nailed it!
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with The Amazonas Brazilian Tarp Hat Company, we think you'll be quite pleased to hear that this company produces hats, bags and other accessories from recycled truck tarpaulins, whilst 50P from every purchase is donated towards installing fresh water wells in remote villages in the Brazilian Amazonian rainforest.
Think that's impressive? It's certainly not all there is to know about this inspirational brand! These items are hand-crafted by local villages on the edge of the Amazonian rainforest, adding to their authentic and unique aesthetic. The founders of The Amazonas Brazilian Tarp Hat Company, Ana and Charlie, have created a company that is very close to their hearts. Not only was Ana born in a remote village in the Amazonian rainforest, but the couple were also blessed in a church in the rainforest's village of Pedras Negras.
The inscription inside of our very own Tarp Hat tells a tale that you will truly love, as it explains: "Your Brazilian Tarp Hat is a one off. It is hand cut and stitched using recycled truck tarpaulins that have protected cargo travelling along thousands of miles of red dust tracks, from the South of Brazil right up to the Amazon Basin in the north. The hat is recycled, it is green and best of all, it is yours!"
"All of the hats have seen more weather than most of us might see in a lifetime...and are ready for their next job of keeping the elements off of you whilst looking rather cool at the same time," the brand further states.
One cannot deny that the Tarp Hat has 'rugged good looks' and they contain little imperfections such as specks of lighter or darker colours which only add further to their appeal - They are made from recycled materials after all! Upon receiving our Tarp Hat in the mail though, one thing stood out. These hats have been made with utmost care and are so incredibly durable and hardy - Perfect for outdoor activities such as gardening, hiking, bush walking and fishing!
Charlie and Ana have been kind enough to offer Whim's readers a 10% discount when they use the code 'WATERHAT' so please pop over to their website and view the full catalogue to see what takes your fancy! You can also follow the good work of the brand over on their Facebook page, Twitter or even on YouTube. Enjoy!
