DIY: Yarn Dream Catcher

With every DIY project I take on, I try my best to disregard perfectionism and focus on making something unique and one-of-a-kind. This definitely came into play when creating this modern dream catcher. How cosy does it look when made with woollen yarn?! It ended up being so much fun to put together, and only required a few simple and minimal materials. And, as usual, there’s a lot of room to customise and turn it into whatever you want!

What You'll Need:

  • 10 inch embroidery hoop
  • 3 inch embroidery hoop
  • White or beige embroidery thread
  • Various shades of yarn
  • Wooden beads
  • Sharp scissors

Step 1: You’ll only need the inner parts of the embroidery hoops, so separate those and set aside the outer hoops. Place the smaller hoop inside the larger hoop on a flat surface.

Step 2: Tie your embroidery thread to the larger hoop, and loop it through the smaller hoop. Continue looping and weaving between the two until the space between is reasonably full and you’re happy with the pattern. All of the embroidery thread was used for this particular one, but there’s no rule that you must use it all too! When you’re done, tie it off around the larger hoop and leave a long bit of thread at the top (for when you’ll eventually hang your dream catcher up).

Step 3: Cut pieces of yarn to whatever length you like and tie to the bottom of the larger hoop. Play around with the colours and amount used! When you’re finished, you can trim the edges to create a bit of a diagonal effect, or cut them to the same length.

Step 4: Now it’s time to attach wooden beads onto the yarn. Depending on the thickness of said yarn, you may have to twist the ends of it and then pull through the other side of the bead to get them on.

Step 5: Use the remainder of your long embroidery thread to hang up your dream catcher, and enjoy your peaceful sleep!
