Mix n Chic Style Challenge with Chairish (Plus, Whim's 'Dream Office'!)

Shabby Chic Decor Challenge

Whim was recently contacted by Chairish and invited to take part in their Mix n Chic Style Challenge.

I have to admit, I hadn’t heard of Chairish until this email, but after looking around on their website and seeing that the platform has been featured on publications such as InStyle, ELLE Décor, Pop Sugar and The Oprah Magazine, I must’ve been living underneath a rock!

Chairish is an exclusive, curator approved, online marketplace for vintage and used furniture. The aim of the Mix n Chic Style Challenge is to celebrate the timeless elegance of the Shabby Chic aesthetic and to showcase how it can be mixed with a huge array of other styles, whether it be bohemian, coastal, rustic or industrial (just to name a few!)

For this challenge I created two moodboards. The first showcases my inspiration behind the look I was aiming to achieve. I also thought this challenge would be a great way for me to concentrate on Whim’s ‘dream office’, a thought that often motivates and inspires me.

Speaking of inspiration, here’s my first moodboard below!

As you can see I was fascinated by pastel colours mixed with modern white furniture and quirky, eclectic décor.

After having way too much fun discovering unique and stunning pieces of furniture and décor on the Chairish website, I finally decided upon the items which would make up my room moodboard.

Ta-da! The two pieces of Shabby Chic furniture I used were the pretty floral chair and the pink ombre effect vanity table. I loved the femininity of these pieces and felt as though they truly summed up Whim Online Magazine’s very own desired aesthetic.

I mixed these items with more modern pieces which incorporated my love of pastels (particularly that shade of ‘Whim pink’!), watercolour floral art, deer-related accessories, pom poms and quirky items (such as the blue swan planter and doily rug)

You can find links to each of these items at the end of this blog post too!

I found the fusion of modern furniture with the Shabby Chic furniture to be surprisingly cohesive, rather than jaunty. These modern pieces include the white desk and photography studio lamp (to symbolise Whim’s concentration on photography content).

My advice and tips on mixing styles:

  • Choose a clear colour scheme for your room as this will allow it to look cohesive and aesthetically pleasing, even when the items in the room are a mixture of styles or even from different time periods.
  • If you have a room lacking in comfort or warmth, you should add pieces of furniture or décor with a Shabby Chic aesthetic to soften the room’s overall appearance. Shabby Chic items really do combine well with other styles and they also add a cosiness to your space.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix one style of furniture with a different aesthetic of décor. This will liven up your room, adding various elements and showcasing your taste in design!

I want to thank Chairish for inviting Whim to take part in this fun challenge and I encourage you to check out the Chairish website (or view the full Shabby Chic range) to see what all of the fuss is about! You can also follow Chairish on Facebook, Instagram (@chairishco) and Pinterest. Enjoy!
