Music Review: "The Minstrel" from Nemo James

"The Minstrel" is an epic new album from folk / country singer Nemo James, consisting of a whopping 17 songs.

After a 12 year break from the music industry, this musician is back with some of his best work yet. If names like Nick Drake, Joshua Radin, and James Taylor ring a bell, then you'll probably enjoy Nemo's similar sound.

The album opens with the track "Dreamer On The Run", a calming track with the velvety smooth vocals of Nemo. The musician has a wonderful ability to tell stories and you can definitely hear the combination of country and folk in the way he sings this song.

"The Poet" is the second track on the album and it is also one of my favourites. Although it is more melancholic than the first, I found it to be really beautiful and to contain some great lyrics, such as "Who is he that lingers in the forest...He's a poet, a dreamer, a creator of the world".

"Pride" is another fantastic song on the album which I really enjoyed. I would describe it as 'glittery' and 'nostalgic', as Nemo's lyrics read like poetry. There are also some stunning, accompanying female vocals which take this song to even greater heights.

"In The Garden" is another lovely song from the album, however this one seems a lot more personal and touching than the others. Nemo uses this song as a tribute to his late mother, reminiscing about the days he would come home from school to find her happily pottering about in her garden.

"A Woman Unknown" was also a song I found to be really enjoyable to listen to, and it may in-fact be my favourite on the entire album! This was another song containing accompanying female vocals which seemed to enhance the overall mood so much (she's a fantastic singer!).

If you've found this little review of "The Minstrel" intriguing, then you'll be pleased to know that you can stream the entire album in free over on SoundCloud. You can also keep updated with the musician through his website or on Facebook. Enjoy!
