When online optical retailer Firmoo reached out to me recently with a collaboration in mind, I jumped at the chance because of 3 main reasons:

  • Summer is fast approaching here in Australia and although it is one my most favourite times of year, that harsh sun definitely takes a beating on your eyes! Firmoo's glasses contain anti-reflection and anti-UV coatings in order to protect against any sun damage.
  • I had seen Firmoo's glasses featured on some of my favourite blogs already and loved the ways in which bloggers had already been styling their products.
  • A quick visit to Firmoo.com showed me that there were literally hundreds of styles of glasses to choose from, and being someone who didn't need prescription glasses, there was still a huge range of sunglasses on offer.

I chose style #FRM8827 with a brown / leopard print patterned frame and brown tinted lenses. I thought this style would be best because they were casual enough to be paired with any outfit and the additional information about the product ensured me that they would suit my smaller face. I'm pleased to say that they fit extremely well and the darker lens tint gives them a polarised effect.

My glasses also arrived in a beautiful vintage map inspired case, which is perfect for keeping them squash-free in my handbag. The order also came with a cleaning cloth and a keyring featuring a double-sided screwdriver in case you need to tighten your glasses or if anything needs slight repairs down the track.

Most of Firmoo's glasses cost just $29 - $39 US Dollars, so you'll find that they're quite affordable. I also loved that there were numerous options available upon checkout to customise your glasses, including everything from lens thickness to polarisation and lens tint colour.

Whim's tips for choosing your perfect pair of sunglasses:

A good pair of sunglasses doesn't have to cost a lot. By keeping the following things in mind, you can ensure that your new pair will become your go-to sunnies for years to come.

Think of your eyes' needs:

Do you have to have prescription sunglasses, or perhaps you spend a lot of time outdoors and require the extra sun protection that polarisation and anti-UV can offer? While many 'fashion sunglasses' look great, they might not meet the sun safe requirements of your country and therefore could be putting your eyes at risk of damage. Always take note of the lenses in your desired style before making the purchase and don't be afraid to ask if you're unsure of anything!

Take your face shape and size into consideration:

Last year I was able to review a great pair of sunglasses here on the blog and I loved the style of them, as well as their heavy duty lenses. There was just one hiccup though, as the frame was simply too large for my face, meaning that I had to constantly push them back onto the bridge of my nose. If you have a more narrow face like me, you'll want to take note of the measurements of the sunglasses, or if they have a size stated (like Firmoo has for all of their glasses), then stick to small or medium. Likewise if you have a wider face, then you'll want to ensure that the frame won't be uncomfortably small for your face shape.

Certain styles will also be more flattering on different face shapes. Here's a great guide to help you find which styles might suit your face better.

Read the reviews:

Another element of Firmoo's buying experience which I really enjoyed was that many of their styles have feedback and reviews from customers who have already purchased that style. This was a great factor which helped me to decide on a product, as previous customers had noted that they suited their narrower face (and included images of themselves wearing the sunglasses for additional reference!).

Ask the experts:

If you're unsure of anything in regards to your eyes' needs or perhaps even if you might require prescription sunglasses, then you should seek a professionals advice. The Firmoo website has a whole list of eye care doctors in various countries which offer free eye exam, prescription glasses, RX sunglasses or even the option to donate your old pair of glasses. Helpful indeed!
