Tips for Buying Wedding Rings
Your wedding ring is something you’ll want to cherish for years to come, so it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it the most important jewellery decision you’ll ever make. When it comes to buying your perfect ring, there are a number of factors you might want to take into consideration – after all, you and your spouse will be wearing these rings every day! Here’s some of the wonderful tips we learnt from Diamond Emporium’s Learning Centre:
Do some planning beforehand
Before you begin looking at jewellers, you’ll want to have an idea in your mind of what both you and your partner want. Some questions to take into account include: will you be matching the metal of your wedding band to your engagement ring? Do you want a more traditional and simple band, or one with more elaborate designs or gemstones on it? Would you like your wedding band and engagement ring to align with one another? Jewellers such as Diamond Emporium in Sydney can even bind the two together following the ceremony, if you wish.
Don’t leave it to the last minute
It is recommended that you begin searching for your perfect wedding band at least 3 months before the wedding date to avoid any last minute stress! Also, if you are interested in a custom ring, you will want to allow enough time for the design to be completed. The wedding ring experts at Diamond Emporium explain: “Basic ring sizing requires the skill and attention of a trained jeweller, which can take approximately four weeks to complete. Custom ring design is more involved and takes even longer. Talk with your jeweller to make sure you allow enough time for sizing or design before the big day.”
Comfort is important
Remember how we mentioned earlier that this is a piece of jewellery you’ll be wearing every day? Therefore, it’s important that it fits seamlessly into your daily life and doesn’t cause any discomfort. Certain styles might irritate your finger with bulky designs or crystals which tend to dig into your skin. When you’re trying different rings on, be sure to keep them on your finger for a few minutes if possible to gain a true sense of their comfort level.
Choosing a metal
Brides and grooms often place a lot of importance on the metal of their rings, and for good reason too! Diamond Emporium recommends choosing a metal which not only suits your personal style, but your skin tone too. Some people also find that their skin reacts negatively to certain metals. Diamond Emporium explains: “Yellow and white gold are common choices for wedding rings. But platinum, being the hardest, does not need to be mixed with an alloy and, therefore, is the safest choice for those with allergies.”
It’s all in the sizing
What could be more annoying than a ring which is too small or large? Thankfully jewellers can re-size rings, however this process could take weeks and create extra cost for you. It’s best to get your wedding band size spot-on from the get-go, so you’ll want to ensure that your final ring fitting is at a time when you’re neither too hot or cold (this causes swelling and shrinking of your fingers) or not when you’ve just worked out.
Ensure the ring’s quality from a trusted jeweller
For a ring that will last a lifetime, you need it to be of a high quality from an experienced jeweller. Your jeweller should also be extremely knowledgeable of the industry to assist you with any questions you might have along the way. Diamond Emporium is one such jeweller in Sydney that is well-known for its quality craftsmanship and professionalism. They are a second-generation family-owned and operated business, with gemmologists, jewellers, appraisers and professionals accredited by the Gemmological Association of Australia (GAA). Diamond Emporium is also a member of the Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA) and the Diamond Dealers Club of Australia (DDCA), therefore, you know you’ll be in great hands!
