Photoshoot + Interview: 'Graveyard Girls' by Brandi Nicole
This dreamy, gothic-inspired photo shoot by New York based photographer Brandi Nicole is appropriately titled 'Graveyard Girls' (and has us cheerily humming along to that M83 song we all know and love!)
We can't help but fall in love with those long, flowing black dresses, as well as the stunning gold makeup featured throughout these images.
We were also lucky enough to interview the talented Brandi to ask her all about her photography career, experience capturing these beautiful images, and her dreams for the future (among other things!).
Q: When did your love of photography first blossom?
A: I had always loved art in every form growing up. I would actually color on my walls (with my mom's permission) and “borrow” my parents' cameras until I finally got one. In high school I had a film class that I adored with an amazing teacher and a really collaborative group of lady classmates, and you could say since then I knew that my path would revolve around photography. :)
Q: What inspires your creativity the most?
A: Constantly looking at other art forms, trying new things, creating in just about any form. At any moment I am in the middle of a couple books and a few creative personal projects. I love staying busy.
Q: Please tell us more about the experience you had whilst planning and capturing this gorgeous series?
A: I have always been fascinated by the avant garde fashion. I wanted to find a way I could incorporate this creative fashion theme with a gothic twist and tell a story with the clothing and styling. It is a little different, it is a little interesting. But I really enjoy creating things that are a little out there.
Q: What does an average day in the life of Brandi look like?
A: A range of Spotify playlists and podcasts in the background, scanning Pinterest boards and books for inspiration, planning out photo shoots, reading articles and books, a little painting, and a lot of shooting and processing images.
Q: What do you hope to achieve with your photography in the not-too-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us?
A: My number one goal is to keep creating. I have plans to develop a personal project Involving painting, graphic design, and photography that I am very excited about. And I am also getting more into celebrity portraiture, and getting those done and circulating in the media is very exciting!
