A Fresh Start: Decorating Your New Place
Moving into a new home is so exciting- a fresh new start for you to transform into whatever you want. But it can be overwhelming too, with so much to think about you might be wondering where to begin. If you’ve moved into a new home and are ready to start decorating (or are just wanting to refresh your current house) here are some things to take into consideration!
Get Inspired
There are so many places you can go to get inspired these days. From Instagram to Pinterest to Blogs, there’s no shortage of gorgeous images for you to feast your eyes on. You could check out the work of interior designers, and either get one on board to help or browse their work for inspiration. Even very high-end looks by designers such as Juan Pablo Molyneux can stir up some ideas. Spend time looking at finished rooms, and seeing the ways they are put together and dressed for the best effect. This will give you the best chance of getting it right in your own home.
Make It Flow
Having a base color on the walls that runs throughout your home will make it look much more coherent. Everything will flow better, and it will open up the space. Choosing a light colored neutral is a good choice. That way you can then dress each room individually and go with different colors if you want to, but without compromising on the overall look. The same applies to floors. You could choose a hard-wearing wood or tile for the ground floor that will work well in all rooms and be easy to clean. And a good quality carpet in the same shade throughout the upstairs, which will again just make everything flow better and tie it all together. Another way to make sure your home has a good coherent look to it is to ensure that all internal doors and door handles match. You could also make sure sockets and light switches are all the same color. Updating cheap white sockets and light switches to metal will give a more high end look.
Plan The Layout
Before moving furniture in or buying new pieces, it can be helpful to work out where everything is going to go first. This can save you a lot of time, energy, and money as you won’t be moving things into a space that’s not going to work. There are free programs you can get online which can help you to plan your room in 3d; this is useful as you can see how everything is going to look first. If you’re moving furniture that you had in a previous property, it might not be an exact fit for the new space. It could be too large or small; you might need to get rid of pieces or buy extra things. Planning the layout first gives you the best idea about this.
