Spring is in full-swing here in Australia, so you can imagine our excitement at receiving this stunning photo shoot titled 'In Bloom' by the talented Theresa Hall.

Theresa is a photographer from Toowoomba in Queensland whose work has us feeling a bit starry-eyed - especially her fashion photo shoots with up and coming models featuring the clothing of our dreams.

Whim's Editorial Assistant Cecile recently had a bit of a Q&A session with Theresa and below you'll find her full and inspiring interview!

Q: How did you make your start as a photographer?

A: I have always been into photography since I was young, I started doing landscapes then architecture. I loved shapes and shadows and seeing how light changes on buildings. Then I did wedding photography for years with my husband who is an amazing photographer but we both realised weddings wasn’t our passion.

I have always had a love for fashion from a child - I wanted to be a fashion designer and still love designing dresses. So I started photographing fashion and models and loved it and can’t get enough of it. I was fearful of jumping into the fashion photography world but glad I did, I can be more creative and I have met some amazing people.

Q: What's the best part of living in Toowoomba as a creative?

A: The best part of being in Toowoomba is that I have an amazing team of creatives here, they have supported me and helped me grow as a creative. If it wasn’t for the models, makeup artists, hair stylists, and stylists that have worked with me I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing now, they have allowed me to play and learn and trusted my vision. Toowoomba is a very creative place and there is so much talent here so it keeps me inspired.

Q: Your shoot is a beautiful example of working with vintage - what's your favourite era for vintage clothes?

A: Hard question! I love things from different eras - I love the 20’s for the hair and makeup and love the the clothing from the Victorian era with the opulent colours and lace and fabrics. But for myself I am a bit of a seventies baby, love the floaty dresses and rock and roll style.

Q: You've got a few shoots with first time models uploaded - how do you make someone modelling for the first time feel at ease?

A: It can be very scary for a first time model but I think by letting them know they are doing amazing and showing them the images can help. When they see themselves and realise they look great that can give them confidence. I am a bit of a clumsy goofball on shoots and really want to make them fun - I don’t think I am intimidating. Well, hope not.

Q: What are you working on next?

A: Well I am always planning new shoots. I have so many Pinterest boards for new shoots I want to do. My next shoot planned is something dark, moody and Avant Garde with beautiful colours. I am really loving playing with colour at the moment.
