Photoshoot + Interview: 'Desdemona' by Connie Marina
We’ll let you in on a secret: the humble bunch of baby’s breath (or gypsophila, officially) is one of our favourite blooms, despite more commonly being used as a “filler flower”
– and we’re so happy to see it as the star of the show in Connie Marina’s latest bridal shoot “Desdemonda”.
Connie contrasts her white lace-clad model with a slightly eerier setting – a well-worn graveyard, and the entrance to a crypt. We’re loving the elegance and shapes of the dresses showcased, as proof a high neckline can lend a look some old-world style.
We've got an inspiring interview with the talented photographer too, so be sure to keep reading!
Q: What was the inspiration for this beautiful shoot?
A: I’m personally inspired by anything that’s hauntingly beautiful and I loved how the name Desdemona meant “misery.” I thought we could mix an emotional scenery with a haunted bride to create a powerful story.
Q: How did you come about shooting in the graveyard?
A: We have a gorgeous cemetery here in Georgia full of rich history! My team and I were looking for an area that could portray a darker story and the graveyard fit exactly what we were looking for.
Q: You've got a wonderful photo diary under "Adventures" - what inspires you to photo blog your life?
A: I’ve always been very interested in fashion, traveling, and creating different emotions. Capturing these moments through pictures has always been a huge part of how I am, and how I mainly express myself!
Q: What are you working on next?
A: My team and I have been inspired by bridal shoots recently, and we have a vintage bridal shoot coming up! It will be full of moody sepia tones, dramatic dresses, and fields of autumn scenery. We can’t wait to share!
Connie’s work is eye-catching fashion photography with a twist. As well as being the head photographer for Atlana-based B You Beauty Salon and Beauty Box MD, Connie has a freeform photo journal on her site that’ll have you scrolling for days.
