Daisy’s Milkbar
Where: Petersham
In the heart of Sydney’s Inner West, in Petersham, you’ll find our #1 must-visit place on this list – Daisy’s Milkbar. As an early 90s kid, I sadly don’t remember the traditional Aussie milkbars quite as well as the older generations. However, I do have very fond memories of walking to my local corner store as a kid to buy a Bubble O’Bill ice cream and musk sticks, so thankfully I can still feel that pang of nostalgia upon entering this incredible place.
With a bright, sea-blue exterior and interior walls and shelves in our favourite shade of pink (what we like to dub ‘Whim pink’), Daisy’s Milkbar is our absolute dream café brought to life. While we’ve heard the food and milkshakes are to-die-for (and include Aussie classics that will make your mouth water), we’re also incredibly excited that Daisy’s Milkbar stock fun products from local Australian designers that we love (including favourites such as Julie White and Make Me Iconic), along with the delicious lollies straight from any Aussie childhood (does anyone else remember the bubble gum that came with temporary tattoos?).
Daisy’s has also just announced free monthly Q&A nights for indie designers, hosted by D'Alton Baker Productions in the gorgeous café. The Picnic
Where: Burwood Park
Located in the heart of Sydney’s Inner Western suburb of Burwood, The Picnic only opened its doors in February last year. That hasn’t stopped the incredible concept of a café from becoming insanely popular amongst Sydney diners, with attendees proudly sharing their dining experience across social media.
What is unique about The Picnic is that it operates on a first-in, first-served basis. While this means that diners can’t reserve a spot in advance, it does make the experience all the more authentic and special – a clever nod to its picnic-inspired concept.
The café further explains: “Its picturesque setting within Burwood Park and its lively atmosphere make it the perfect oasis amongst a bustling city centre…This exciting cafe celebrates a refreshing twist on an otherwise traditional brunch menu. With particular focus on fresh produce and modern flavours, it’s no wonder our café has been featured in The Daily Telegraph, Broadsheet, Inner west courier, Sydney Morning Herald, The Good Food Guide and more recently Sydney Weekender.”

Catmosphere Cat Café
Where: Surry Hills
What do you get when you combine delicious treats with a space theme and cute cats? Catmosphere Cat Café in Surry Hills of course! If (like us) you find it hard to hide your inner crazy cat-lady (and you’re a sucker for all things related to space), then this is the perfect place for you to come and hang out with a tasty drink in-hand.
The café’s website sheds some more light on this awesome establishment, explaining: “Australia's first space cat café consists of a regular café area and two separate cat rooms. While you can pop by any time to visit the café, spending time with our cats requires a reservation. Fortunately we have many paw-some activities that you can book right here on our website.”

The Grounds of Alexandria
Where: Alexandria
The Grounds of Alexandria is probably one of Sydney’s most famous cafes, and if you’ve ever had the chance to visit there in person, you’ll certainly understand why!
The Grounds explain: “Opened in April 2012, the site which spans approximately an acre within the inner west city fringe suburb of Alexandria, hosts a coffee research and education facility, artisan bakery and a permaculture garden of heirloom vegetables, fragrant herbs, fresh fruit and flowers along with a small animal farm…The initial concept of The Grounds was born from entrepreneurial duo Ramzey Choker and Jack Hanna who had a vision to turn the then industrial concrete car park into a thriving urban sanctuary, designed as a welcoming space to bring people together.” Does it get any better than that?
We also love stopping-by the florist filled with beautiful and colorful blooms. It’s the perfect finish to a delectable sit-down meal at this inspiring establishment.

Doughbox Diner
Where: Enmore
If you’re after a sweet treat in a cool café reminiscent of the 1950s, then you’re in luck! Doughbox Diner at Enmore isn’t just famous for their Pinup and Vintage glamour era-inspired décor – they also boast their very own Crepe Cone recipe that has diners flocking here from all over Sydney.
With a pink wall filled with portraits of ‘the greats’ from eras gone-by, this is one place we’ll certainly be making repeated visits to. Plus, who doesn’t love basically everything on this entire menu?

Bread & Circus
Where: Alexandria
Alexandria is quickly becoming the hub for awesome and whimsical-inspired cafes, so here’s another one from the suburb to add to our list!
With a concept that celebrates fresh, healthy food and everything pink, Bread & Circus is one place that we wouldn’t mind spending a lazy Sunday at. While the menu is one of the most delicious and unique we’ve ever seen, it’s certainly the interior décor of this café that has us in a hurry to visit – featuring bright blooms, rustic wooden tabletops, and of course – plates in the prettiest shade of pastel pink.
