Lola's Garden: Julie White's New Contemporary Australiana Inspired Collection

Though we feature a lot of them here on Whim, Australia's not a very pastel-based land.

No blushing pink roses, no cherry blossoms, no beds of lavender (Not naturally, at least!).

South Australia-based designer and maker Julie White embraces this to a tee in her latest collection, taking her inspiration from the colours, shapes and curiosities of the dramatic Australian bush to give us 'Lola’s Garden'.

This is Australiana at its best, harking back to picture-book images and horticultural illustrations.  Julie plays with the deep blue of an Australian desert sky, the cheeky blue-and-yellow budgie, the sticky red banksia, with handfuls of eucalyptus leaves snaking throughout.

This collection features a number of silk scarfs - a perfect way to put a vintage twist on an outfit (or hide that your social arrangements don't quite align with your hair washing days!) We love their styling as a top or sarong too! We also adore the printed tights and socks – certain to inject a splash of colour into the colder months and add a unique touch to that LBD.

For us at Whim, this collection’s a reminder of how lucky we are to live on the doorstep of such a rich world of flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth – and of growing up reading illustrated classics like Possum Magic and Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.
