We Chat to Lotte van Baalen About Her Global Phenomenon @PlantsOnPink

If you’re not already following @PlantsOnPink on Instagram, we suggest you take a look.

It seems almost too simple – plants on a pink background, a crowd-sourced Instagram project.

Founded by Netherlands-based Lotte Van Baalen, @PlantsOnPink celebrates these opposites on the colour wheel and has been featured as an online gem all over the world. It’s been around since May 2015, and since then has amassed a cool 73, 000 followers, sourcing photos through user submissions.

Scrolling though the feed, this world seems to almost exist in the video-game landscape, or the Barbie Dreamhouse, where everything is calming, charming, and carefully curated.

Popular as the account’s become, you don’t need to be IG famous yourself to submit – just snap your favourite #plantsonpink (even selfies and fashion shoots are accepted!), tag and hashtag, and you could be featured amongst the ever-growing collection.

We have one more exciting piece of news for you today, as we recently chatted to the talented Founder (and Artist) behind this project - Lotte Van Baalen. Keep reading for our inspiring Q&A!

Q: Why do you think @PlantsOnPink took off as such a success? (We've got a feeling it wasn't entirely an accident!)

A: I think @PlantsOnPink took off so successfully because plants make people happy and no one can resist a good pink. Especially combined! I think I gave name to a worldwide trend, which helped the trend expand.

Q: We've seen people submit fashion shoots, selfies, etc to the Instagram - what are some of your favourite ways people have gotten creative with the #PlantsOnPink theme?

A: That´s right! I love how diverse people are and how creative some can get when working with plants and pink. I very much love the latest work from Viviane Sassen for Dazed&Confused, where she teamed up with the beautiful Alek Wek and Grace Bol wearing Vivienne Westwood and Vetements. A total @PlantsOnPink shoot!

Q: Where do your passions lie when you're not curating @PlantsOnPink?

A: Art and fashion for sure. But I also love crossfit!

Q: What are some of your favourite Instagram accounts to follow at the moment?

A: I love @manrepeller, @rouje, @traceeellisross and @lotte.lotte.lotte
