Modernising Your Lounge With A Minimalist Approach

If you’re planning on modernising your lounge room, you may find you’re overthinking it.

When we say modern, we don’t mean futuristic. It doesn’t have to be full of things like neon lamps, automated tables that extend on request, or blinds that sense the dip in sunlight and close automatically. Your lounge doesn’t have to try and be a sci-fi movie set, but, if you’re trying to be contemporary, you must utilise modern technology and style.

Choosing a standout piece that shall be the focal point of the room is perhaps the toughest decision because everything sort of molds around the sofa. The thing about modern contemporary style is that it hasn’t really asserted itself yet, so it’s difficult to identify what ‘modern’ really is. Take a minimalist approach, with some sensible thought-out choices and follow some key updating rules.

Glass Designs

Glass tables, patio door, and cabinets, all modern decor furniture can be made out of intricate designs of glass. It’s mark of manufacturing improvements, strides in design and such material are used to bounce the other colours in the room off with the light reflection. A coffee table made purely out of a single sheet of glass will wow guests when they come over to brunch or afternoon tea. At first, because of the supposed daintiness of it, they’ll be hesitant to put anything on it, but they’ll soon realise that modern tempered glass is actually quite resistant to heat and weight pressures.

The Life and Soul

The centrepiece of the lounge, is of course where everybody congregates, to talk, laugh, snooze, watch movies, and swap stories. This is plainly the role of the contemporary sofa. Rather than trying to pick something out of a generic lineup from a catalog or local furniture store, to really update your lounge go with specialists. You could go with a company like Como Furniture, which has modern jagged u-shape designs such as the plain white Bari design, with extended ends for lying. Or, perhaps, the deep seat Ponte design, taking inspiration from the Portuguese word meaning ‘bridge’ as the middle seat is curved to conjoin two sides in a merge. It isn’t just design, modern fabrics like latex for inner stitching is used in these designs, so they remain flexible but absorb a person’s weight without resistance.

Floating Light

The minimalist approach in the contemporary design is nowhere more certain than in lounge lighting. Almost like hanging from a shoestring, orb lights have become incredibly popular because of the novelty of their design. The base is small, but the stem is thin and elongated with a sitting sphere at the end in most of these lamp design. It’s about finesse, and the artist is showing off a bit with the display of balance. If you’d like to venture out a tad, a halo lamp with a built-in dimmer might be a great choice for a desk of inside the glass cabinet. It’s very bright as the halo design requires the use of LED lights and the fixture extends either side with a central base stabilizing the weight of the circle.
