Making Your Home Look and Feel Good: It's About the Little Things

Your home is your castle. It’s your anchor.

It’s the place where you may now, or may in the future, be raising a family. It’s your place. And because it’s your place, you deserve for it to look and feel good. But it isn’t going to look and feel good if you don’t make it that way. And it isn’t going to look and feel good if you don’t pay attention to the little things. For advice on how to do this, and how to do it well, make sure to read on.

Making it look good

Making your home look good is about doing more than just changing the colour scheme and buying a few new pieces of furniture. It’s about ensuring that your home is as clean as can be at all times. And to ensure that this is the case, you’re going to have to pay attention to even the smallest of dirty marks.

Specifically, this means fighting the urge to ‘do it tomorrow’, and cleaning every watermark ring you see left behind on your coffee table, and every bathtub ring your see left behind after somebody takes a bath, today. To tackle watermark rings, try combining dual parts of baking soda and water — the paste it forms into will be strong enough to get rid of any watermark rings you see. To tackle bathtub rings, try dipping a half cut lemon in salt and then rubbing the salty end over the marks. Just be prepared to use some elbow grease when you do these things!

Making it feel good

Making your home feel good is about more than just hanging a few inspirational paintings and pictures up. It’s about doing more than just decorating in a specific way and choosing a specific colour scheme for the walls. It's about ensuring that the little things are taken care of; it’s about ensuring that the home feels clean and feels as if it is a place that can be lived in.

To ensure that this is the case in your home, your home’s cleanliness must be atop of your to-do list at all times. Garbage must be bagged up and taken out frequently and not left to rot in the corner of a room. It must then be taken away by professional rubbish removal companies, even if your local government’s bin service is on strike. And this sequence must then happen again, and again, and again. Making your home feel good is about making it a safe, clean place to live. It’s not just about painting the walls in the relaxing cool hue of lilac!

Sometimes, the things our homes need aren’t big improvements. Sometimes, our homes don’t need renovations or refurbishments. Sometimes, they don’t need an interior design makeover. No, sometimes they just need to be made to look and feel good. And to do this, you, as your home’s owner, need to be willing to pay attention to even the littlest of details. When you do not only will your home thank you, but you’ll end up thanking yourself.
