Modern Living Room Decor Ideas
If there is only one room in the home that you could put all of your efforts into, then the living area is a pretty safe bet.
It is an area where you spend a lot of your time, and if you have family and children, you’re bound to be in that room quite a lot. It can be quite a treasured space that will set the tone for your mood, and often for the rest of the decor around the house.
Looking for stylish yet modern ways to decorate the living area can be tricky, especially with so many influences and ideas on sites like Pinterest. So how about starting off with a pop of color? Pastel shades can be a good idea, as they can be mixed up with lighter tones to not overwhelm the room. When you mix up pops of color and pattern with plenty of white space, it helps to create a really modern, chic, and stylish look, rather than it looking like overkill.
Look to 'Lagom'
The Scandinavian style of decorating is a big thing at the moment, with monochrome, clean lines, and abstract art featuring pretty highly. You don’t have to throw away everything that you have in order to have a minimalist look in your home, though. It can be achieved through clever storage, and deciding what you want in the room, versus what you need in the room. The term ‘lagom’ is a Scandinavian term that means ‘just enough’. So when you combine that with the Scandi-style of decor, you can see how the two work together.
Embrace Practicality
As well as storing things well, decluttering, and having some pops of color, being able to have some practical touches in your living room is always going to be a good thing. As let’s face it, we can’t all live in a showhome; it is just not practical. So things like cheap roller blinds can be teamed up with some drapes to serve a practical purpose, as well as looking good. You can also think about practical ways to store things, like ottoman-style footstools, and built-in storage. Because you have to actually live in the room and not just have it for show.
Make it Cosy
In a similar vein, being able to have a living area that is cozy and comfortable is a must too. You’re not going to want to sit and watch a movie on a piece of futuristic looking furniture that isn’t even that cozy. So you have to think of your comfort too, as well as style. Neutral colors like cream, white, and shades of brown and be warming and comforting, especially if they’re thrown in with something like faux-fur cushions for a cozy feel and look. Mixing up the textures that you use can be a good idea too.
Add Greenery
Adding plants, flowers, and greenery into the room is a sure-fire way to make the room look more modern too. Succulents are especially popular at the moment, and the good news is that they can look good, but also be easy to look after.
