Translations: RAW Sydney

Whim was lucky enough to receive an invitation to the RAW Sydney event, 'Translations', which occurred on Wednesday night at The Roxy in Parramatta. I attended with my good friend Natalia who is a very gifted artist herself (stay tuned for some of her beautiful work in the Summer Issue!), and we had a fantastic night viewing some extremely talented, local creatives.
When it comes to explaining exactly what RAW is, the event's website sums it up perfectly, stating: "RAW:natural born artists is an independent arts organization, for artists, by artists...Our mission is to provide independent artists within the first 10 years of their career with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity...RAW currently operates in nearly 60 cities across the United States, Australia, Canada and, now London!"
What I really loved about the event was that it showcased talent from a whole range of artistic genres, including independent film, fashion, music, visual art, performing art, hairstylists and makeup artists. Whether you are wandering around the gallery viewing the showcase of photography and artworks or sitting in the grand, old theatre listening to live music or watching a fashion show - RAW ensures that each of its' guests are being both entertained and enthralled during the entire evening. There is constantly something to look at, watch or ponder over, and both Natalia and I thoroughly enjoyed this during the night. We also thought that Marta Vickland was a great host, and the background music provided by the DJ group Jamland was a nice touch!
When it came to the highlights of the night, it is hard to pick only a few. With the fashion runway shows, I fell in love with Charlotte & Moon all over again (the brand was featured here not long ago), with its' dainty, babydoll dresses, skater skirts, and mermaidesque shell-shaped bras worn under sheer tops (genius!). The swimwear by CLEONIE was also a highlight, with the brand's retro-inspired designs in eye-catching prints. I'm a huge lover of photography, so I really enjoyed seeing Daniela Raiti's photography showcased (the talented photographer was featured on Whim here some months ago!), as well as Alex Benetel's amazing work. I also fell in love with many of the beautiful artworks on display, especially from artists such as Robert Frost, Sillier Than Sally, Ish Capili, and Christina Huynh.
If you would like more information about the various creatives showcased on the night, or more information in general about RAW, you can visit the event's website. You can also keep updated with RAW Sydney news and support the event by liking RAW Sydney on Facebook.
Last but not least, I want to say a huge thank you to RAW Sydney for putting on such a wonderful night, and for inviting Whim along in the first place :)
Have a great weekend everyone!
