Featured Photographer: Kathy Lloyd
Kathy Lloyd is a talented Sydney-based photographer and her work explores intriguing themes such as the human condition, fragility and personal interactions with each other. Her images have a beautiful mixture of qualities; elements of darkness and mystery combine with the tenderness of light to create photographs reminiscent of fine art.
Kathy's intricate photographs have gained the attention of RAW Artists, with the photographer being chosen to showcase her work at both the Wollongong and Sydney showcases. The photographer's images have also been featured at the BENT Art Exhibition in Wentworth Falls, as well as at a 2012 EVOKE Exhibition and the 40x40 Exhibition in Victoria.
Kathy's talents go beyond the camera, with the photographer also posing as the subject of many of her works. "I don’t always see myself in my images, which is good! I usually see the characters... some of which I have actually named! It’s weird, I don’t see them as a part of me, or as separate to me, I see them as a strange culmination of what was going on inside me at that time in my life, and an image that inspired me... they are both me, and not me at the same time", she says.
Kathy's most recent series of images, titled 'Shinsei' (meaning "new life" in Japanese) was inspired by the photographer's dad after he recently underwent surgery for a kidney transplant, ultimately gaining another chance at life. Kathy explains: "I wanted to show hope and new life coming through what people thought was gone. The struggle and fight for life even through pain or tough conditions."
