On Friday night, Whim had the pleasure of attending RAW Sydney's latest showcase titled 'Mosaic'. We knew we were in for a wonderful night filled with an outstanding array of local talent and couldn't wait to meet some fellow Whim contributors in person!
For those who aren't familiar with RAW, we'll first provide some information about the inspiring organisation: "RAW:natural born artists is an international independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights independent creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art. RAW's mission is to provide up-and-coming artists of all creative realms with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity so that they might be seen, heard and loved. RAW educates, connects and exposes emerging artists in over 60 artistic communities across the United States, Australia, Canada and the U.K. through monthly showcase events. Join us in celebrating the work of these artists."
Whim firmly believes that the RAW showcases are a fantastic way to not only be introduced to the work of talented and emerging creatives, but it also provides them with a supportive platform in which to showcase their work to a very large audience. Whim has also had some great experiences and opportunities thanks to RAW Sydney and RAW Australia (such as being a media sponsor and judge for the RAWards Sydney finalists), and the 'Mosaic' showcase was another event from the organisation which certainly didn't disappoint!
Located at the Manning Bar in Sydney University, the first showcase of the year seemed to have crammed-in even more talented creatives than we expected! We were blown away by the art, photography and jewellery booths upon arrival - particularly the stunning and dreamy works of Irene Feleo, Matt de Feudis, Amber Louise, Simanion, Loni Thompson, White Bird Art & Design, Jesse Wakenshaw, Kate Bloomfield and Van Lee Art to name a few - and we can't wait to bring you blog posts over the coming weeks concentrating individually on each of these artists. It was also lovely to meet our Autumn Issue featured artist, Irene Feleo, in person as well as Amy Hersch who has had her work featured here on the Whim blog before.
The performances of the night were highly anticipated, and we particularly enjoyed discovering the guitar driven and melodic sound of 4-piece band Letter To Lions. You will also be able to read an interview with the band in the upcoming digital issue of Whim Online Magazine, so stay tuned! Other highlights included the fashion runway shows, particularly the retro and pin-up girl inspired clothing of Miss Maple Rose, the colourful designs of McSweyn and the eye-catching patterns of carinacatherine.
The next RAW Sydney showcase will take place on the 30th of May at Manning Bar, and if you would like to see some of Sydney's greatest emerging talent across multiple creative fields, then we highly recommend you come along! Tickets can be purchased here. You can also keep updated with RAW Sydney by 'liking' the organisation on Facebook.
