We feel so honoured to be able to bring you this post today, featuring the brand new 'Alter Native' scarf collection by talented fashion designer Julie White, as well as an interview with the inspiring soul!
Julie White is an independent fashion label that specialises in original art prints made into limited edition accessories. Julie explains she learnt her magic through a Master’s degree in textiles at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art and the talented designer is now based in Adelaide, Australia.
Julie's new collection allows us all to "Take a ride through a sun-drenched bushland where spirits come to life in silk." When it comes to what inspired the stunning video for the collection, Julie lists the feeling of "when you're missing summer", along with other concepts such as the Australian wilderness, Babes on Bikes and Fresh Australiana.
Please click play on the video featured above to view one of the most beautiful little films we've ever seen! As you know, Whim was also lucky enough to interview Julie about her fashion label and new collection, and you can read her wonderful answers below:
Q: How would you describe your label Julie White in just three words?A: Australia, colour, nature
Q: When did you first discover your love of fashion design?A: Growing up I found it difficult to find anything I actually liked to wear, so I designed and made my own clothes. I remember the feeling of escaping people’s expectations. The idea that I can help people feel that way is what drives me everyday.
Q: We adore the new Julie White scarf collection, as well as the beautiful video showcasing these designs. What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?A: I began making this print series called 'Alter Native' while I was living in Glasgow last year and became homesick. Something strange happened to me during this time - I started to see Australia in a completely new way, almost like the native flora & fauna I grew up with suddenly felt exotic. The prints in the scarves celebrate Australian flora and fauna in a modern way, and it seemed perfect to shoot the scarf video outdoors in the sunny Australian wilderness, exactly where my inspiration comes from.
Q: What do you hope to achieve with your fashion label in the not-too-distant future; Do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us?A: I'm pretty excited to say the scarves are now part of my continuous core range! Right now, I'm busy drawing new print designs for and end of the year release. The studio is full of colourful drawings and sketches at the moment!
Q: Last but not least, where can Whim's readers find your stunning scarves?A: You can find them at my online shop: www.juliewhite.bigcartel.com
