Music Review: "Meter" from Tetra

When it comes to mastering the electro-pop sound, you just can't beat LA based singer / song-writer Tetra.

Her new album is titled "Meter", and it is a fusion of the sounds and styles that she loves best. Featuring 7 emotive and addictive tracks, this is one collection of songs that you just have to listen to.

"Bad Things" is the first track on the album and it contains Tetra's signature electro beat beginning. Her vocals are surprisingly sweet, very much like those of Ellie Goulding or Sarah Blasko. Her singing is versatile too, however, as we see her voice reach powerful heights just as easily throughout the song.

"Limbo" was the next song, and it too was both electric and atmospheric. This one was a little more quirky and unexpected however, and I enjoyed it even more so than the first track.

"Got You Alone" followed, and its beat will have you reminiscing of those hand-clapping games you once played at school. Despite being a revenge-fuelled song, Tetra keeps her vocals menacingly sweet.

The next song on the album is "Reason to Breathe". It had a great tempo and an atmospheric sound which drew your attention right in. I like how Tetra can alternate between soft and sweet vocals to powerful and passion-fuelled ones to really switch-up a song's mood.

"Poison" was the next track and it contained darker, more haunting tones than the previous songs. With lyrics such as "I starve myself cos I want to be pretty", Tetra is brutally honest and not one to shy away from making a bold statement about society's expectations.

"Ruby Red Lips" is an intriguing and mysterious song which contains a very different beginning featuring the gentle melody of a piano. This is another track which really cements the album's major themes of destruction and love-filled angst.

The record finishes off brilliantly with the emotive and hypnotising track titled "The Tunnel". This was my absolute favourite song from the whole album for its paired-back vocals, pretty sound and less angsty vibe. Tetra reaches some really beautiful high notes, and the beginning of the track actually had a Lana Del Rey sound to it.

With many heralding Tetra as the new queen of electro-pop, I encourage you to give her new album a listen and see what you think of it! You can listen to some of Tetra's songs on SoundCloud, and please be sure to visit her website or Facebook page for more information. Enjoy!
