The Essential Ingredients to a Memorable Birthday Party for the Kids
For many of us, some of the fondest memories that we have from being children are from birthday parties thrown by our parents or by our friends with plenty of cakes, games, fun and laughter. It’s a hugely important part of being a kid, and so it’s a lot of fun when we have kids of our own and can give them the kind of memories that we value so much! Luckily with kids, they’re largely simplistic in what it is that makes them happy, so it’s pretty easy to ensure that your party is going to be a fun one. Simply follow these easy steps for birthday party happiness and give your kids the day of their year, and one that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives!
Decorate the place
Your child may have a particular penchant for fairies, cowboys or mermaids. Why not indulge their every fantastical whim (at least for a day) and let them choose a theme for decorating your backyard or home? You can also get your child or children involved in making or creating decorations that you’re going to use. Creating and then putting up your birthday party decorations can be part of getting your kids excited for the event and can add an extra element of awesome to your party. Make sure that you use plenty of bright colours, glitter and streamers to give the decorations a real festive feel.
Games, games, games!
A key part of any kid’s party would have to be the games and fun that are enjoyed, with merrymaking the primary goal. You can choose from any number of games and activities for the kids that are going to be in attendance, from pin the tail on the donkey, to face painting, to hide and seek. Choosing the right game for your party is obviously going to depend on the area that you have and the kind of kids you have in attendance. If your child loves arts and crafts, then it might be better for your party if you have a crafting table set up. Conversely, if they love running around and playing games then you should incorporate something like ‘What’s the time Mister Wolf’ or something similar, as it’ll stimulate the kids more.
Food and drinks
Tasty party food may not be something that your child gets every day, so make sure that you relax the healthy eating laws for a day and let the kids run wild and free with their appetites. Great party favourites for kids are things like multi-coloured and sweet fairy bread, cocktail frankfurts with tomato sauce, sausage rolls and mini sandwiches; perfect for little hands. Once again, be sure to consult with your little miss or mister to find out what their preferred dishes for parties are. They might surprise you with their choices (one of my kids recently had a birthday and asked for arancini balls – as they’d seen them on a cooking show on TV!) and you can get them to help you prepare the food as well.
Party Favours
A key element of any great kids party is the goodie bag that kids get when they go home. Traditionally, kids would get things like lollies and sweets, but there’s also every chance that the kids have plenty of sugar and snacks, so something like a gift or a keepsake might be a better choice (both for the kids and for the parents who are going to have to try and put the kids off to sleep later!) and something that will be more memorable.
