Music Review: "At First Sight" from Van Norden
What do you get when you combine electronic dance music with an acoustic folk musician? The triumphant new EP "At First Sight" from Van Norden of course!
Don't be put off by the combination of starkly contrasting genres mentioned above, because Van Norden's new track titled 'Love At First Sight' and its accompanying versions will have you enthralled.
Containing similarities with other musicians such as Moby, Basement Jaxx, and Avicii, Van Norden's new song has been described as having “big vocals and a triumphant chorus”.
I first listened to the extended version of "Love At First Sight", followed by the shorter radio edit. I loved the gentle beginning of this song which slowly transformed into a celestial tune featuring stunning and paired back vocals. I could definitely see the Basement Jaxx similarities in this track, as well as elements of The Naked Famous.
Next came the An_Hero Subliminal Remix version of Van Norden's song, which I was quite excited to listen to. While some remixes are well known for completely murdering great songs, I was pleased to find that this one further complimented the original version of the track.
It is an electro-infused and hypnotic track, which thankfully is very easy to listen to and is quite relaxing too. It can be quite repetitive, but that’s still staying true to its genre in a sense. From 3:50 until the end of the track there is this really beautiful lull in the music. Everything seems to slow down, further enhancing the hypnotic hold it seems to have over you.
With just 3 tracks on this EP, it might be over in a flash, but it's so enjoyable to listen to that you'll want to play it on repeat. I particularly liked the extended version with its full-length lyrics for us to enjoy.
