How to Set-Up Your Dream Creative Studio at Home
Whether you consider yourself a creative hobbyist or more of a professional, there’s no doubt that you will benefit from having your very own dream studio space in your home.
If you’re lucky enough to have a spare room to convert, then you’re in for an exciting transformation! Alternatively, if you’re a little bit short on space, then you can just as easily turn half a room, or even a nook, into one too!
Here are our top tips for creating your dream art studio at home:
Think about what you REALLY want:
First thing is first – you’ll want to actually envision what your dream space looks like in order to create it. We recommend either sketching your ideas or writing them down, but for an even clearer vision of your future art studio, why not create a moodboard? Flip through your favourite magazines and cut out images which inspire you, or you can even put together your own Pinterest board to help you out.
Some of the things you may also want to think about are: your desired colour scheme, what aesthetic or décor trend you want to embrace, and even where your studio will be positioned in your house.
Now, what do you need?
It’s one thing to save inspirational images of pretty studios, but now it’s time to hone-in on what you actually need in order to carry out your creativity. For example, is it vital that you have tonnes of natural light? Or perhaps you require a large table so you can spread your work and supplies out in front of you? Other creatives might prefer a sink somewhere nearby to wash up, or even a large window to allow natural light to stream in.
Write down a list of your absolute creative studio essentials so that you can plan around these.
Divide and conquer!
If claiming an entire room for your creative space simply isn’t possible, then don’t fear! Setting up your own studio in a corner or nook of a room is an easy feat and there are several ways that you can go about this. If you insist on keeping your studio space and living space separate, then a room divider or even furniture such as bookcases and shelves would do the trick. You could even get creative and screen off your space using pot plants or a hanging feature.
Consider re-purposing materials:
Setting up your dream studio doesn’t need to be expensive, nor do you have to purchase new materials and furniture in order to set one up. Consider re-using old furniture you may have previously wanted to get rid of, as a fresh coat of paint can do wonders! In terms of storing your creative supplies, jam jars or even cans which have been cleaned will act as wonderful containers for brushes, pencils, pens, and tubes of paint.
Do you require technology?
When it comes to a studio, you can’t rule out having a computer, printer, or scanner (for example) in your space, especially if your work requires them on a regular basis. Do you upload images of your work online? Do you need sources of power in the room, such as power points? These are just some of the things you may need to consider.
Surround yourself with inspiration:
Even though it’s a space dedicated to your own work, don’t forget to display inspirational quotes, photographs, letters, postcards, or any other props which spur on your creativity. As a creative, you’ll understand just how important it is to surround yourself with the things you love the most in order to continuously produce work you’re proud of.
