Introducing Discrepancy Records + My Favourite Soundtracks to Unwind at Home

Whether you’re relaxing at home after a long day at work or having some friends over for a laidback lunch, music can serve as the perfect accompaniment to help you unwind.

If you ask me, I love the beautiful and warm sound of vinyl as it can easily make me happy and relaxed no matter how rough my day has been. One of my most favourite sources of both vinyl and CDs is Discrepancy Records, an Australian owned and operated company which has one of the largest selections of new vinyl in the country.

With thousands of products in stock, browsing Discrepancy Records’ website has me feeling like a child in a candy shop – I constantly find myself hovering between the rock, pop, and folk genres. They also have a vast array of other genres available, so if you’re into metal, hip hop, jazz blues, country folk, dance, electronic, punk, reggae, or techno – then you’re in luck too!

Today, I also want to share with you some of my favourite soundtracks I listen to whenever I need to relax and unwind at home. There’s a little bit of everything in here, so I hope this list can inspire your own perfect playlist!

Angus & Julia Stone by Angus & Julia Stone

The brother-and-sister duo’s self-titled album is still my favourite one. I can’t help but daydream along to the sweet vocals and gentle guitar riffs. Plus, the cover art of this album is good enough to display all-year-long (I’d frame it for my office wall if I could!).

In The Silence by Ásgeir

Ásgeir is an Icelandic singer-songwriter who I recently discovered through Triple J. This album is not only very easy to listen to, but Ásgeir’s unique and stunning vocals also make it something that you’ll want to play on repeat.

Total Life Forever by Foals

This album has been out for quite some time now, but it’s still what I turn to when I’m in need of something very laidback with beautiful instrumentals. I’m still dreaming of seeing Foals play live one day!

Born to Die by Lana Del Rey

While her latest album (Ultraviolence) is good, I still prefer Lana Del Rey’s earlier stuff such as Video Games and National Anthem. This one contains all of the classic tunes from the singer, along with its beautiful and iconic album cover. It’s great to have playing in the background when you have girlfriends over for brunch (or even for a backyard picnic!).

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd

Although Pink Floyd have been around since my parents were much younger, I only recently became a fan of this album after my partner played it for me one holiday car trip. Now, I associate each song with laidback drives up or down the NSW coast. It certainly puts my mind into vacation mode every time I listen to it!

How Big How Blue How Beautiful by Florence + The Machine

I’ve always been a fan of Florence’s combination of high-energy and relaxing tunes and her latest album is no exception. Her incredible and haunting vocals have the ability to instantly lift my mood, leaving me feeling completely de-stressed.

It’s been so much fun sharing these albums with you. If you’re in need of some tunes to help you unwind, then you should have a listen to them too!

I really encourage you to also visit the Discrepancy Records website to check out more of their wide range – whether you’re a lover of vinyl (including 7" singles, 10" Eps, Picture Discs – you name it!) or prefer to listen to CDs (there’s some great box sets available), you’ll find a tonne of stuff to add to your wish list.

You can also keep up-to-date with Discrepancy Records via their Facebook and Instagram (@discrepancyrecords) accounts. Enjoy!
