Why Dresses Are The Must-Have Item In Your Closet For Spring / Summer 2017
With the winter fashion season only just out of the way (in the Northern Hemisphere), it might seem ludicrous to even think about what we're going to wear for spring / summer.
But as always, the fashion world moves fast - and you may find that many stores are already stocking their summer ranges. If you want to get ahead of the game, it may be time to start planning your approach to some of the trends bound to hit the catwalks for the upcoming warmer weather.
The key to getting summer style right is to wear something that's comfortable, versatile but also stylish. That's why if you have anything in your wardrobe this season, make it the dress. Why? We've got all the reasons you need below.
They are comfortable
As soon as the weather starts heating up, we tend to go from being constantly cold to switching on the office air-con as high as it will go. Many of us will know from experience that the absolute last thing you want to wear in this kind of scenario are jeans. Restrictive, thick and not particularly ventilating, they are a nightmare in hot weather.
Dresses, on the other hand, are floaty, loose and don't leave you feeling too compressed. For those especially sunny days, choose one in a light colored material so you do not absorb too much of the sun's UV rays.
You can get hundreds of different styles
One of the good things about dresses is that there is a style to suit everyone, and every body type. Just click here to see some of the designs that are on offer. If you are naturally curvy, go for a classic wrap dress that nips you in at the smallest part of your body (your waist or empire line). If you are straight up and down, opt for a cut that facilitates the illusion of curves - something with a bit of volume on the bust, or a dress with a strong A-line.
In terms of length, it's entirely what you feel comfortable with. Sometimes a below-the-knee cut can be more appropriate (especially in the workplace), but if you have great legs you want to show off, don't be scared to go for a mini-dress! The same goes for body-con dresses versus looser cuts - it's entirely up to you. Just make sure that whatever style you choose, you stay true to your size.
They are versatile
There are a few pieces of clothing more versatile than the humble dress. A short-sleeved shift dress, for example, can look great dressed down with a pair of casual sneakers and barely-there makeup. But if you suddenly get a call to spend the evening out, there's no need to panic. Simply switch your sneakers for a pair of classy heels, apply a bit of makeup and add some jewelry to your look. There you have it - and easy day to night look in minutes. Every woman should have a few staple dresses in her wardrobe - they are perfect for almost any occasion.
