How to Get Organised After a Big House Move
If you’ve just done a big house move, or are just about to, probably most of what you have been reading will be about the preparation and the move itself.
As there seems to be less advice on what to do when you actually arrive at your new property we want to share our top tips on how to get organised and settled into your new home in a calm and stress-free way.
Your Essentials
The first thing you are going to need to do is unpack your essentials. Trying to pack everything all in one sitting is far too much to take on so you are going to want to take it step by step. Good packing and strong organisation will mean that you will have access to your essential items and you will know where to find everything. So starting with the things that you use on a day to day basis, unpack those items calmly and carefully and deal with the non-essential items once you have all your essentials set up.
A Room at a Time
A good way to approach unpacking it to tackle it one room at a time. Again starting with the essentials for each room make your way around each room by unpacking the most important items for each room and only once each room has it’s most important items unpacked and in-place should you then start on the other, less important items.
Begin in the Kitchen
As the kitchen is the heart of any home you will want to start with this room. As you are going to need to eat and have access to drinks and snacks whilst you unpack this is the best place to get set up first. Start with your items such as kettles, toasters and microwaves. Unpack your glasses, crockery and cutlery. Fill your cupboards and fridge up with any food items that you have bought with you and then you will have easy access to those all important snacks and drinks as you tackle the rest of the house.
Careful Disposing
As you are going to create a lot of debris and rubbish and are going to accrue a huge amount of boxes and other recyclable materials you are going to need a plan in place for those items to be taken away to keep your house clear and de-cluttered. Therefore have a look into organising a same-day rubbish removal in your local area that will be able to take care of your rubbish collection.
It is so easy to forget how much rubbish we accrue when moving house so organizing for someone to simply come and pick up all the boxes and packing items will make settling in and unpacking much more easy and relaxed.
Bedtime Preparation
There is nothing worse after a hard day unpacking to finally want to go to bed and realise that nothing is set up. Therefore unpacking your essential bedroom items should also be a priority too, so that when it’s time to hit the hay, you have everything waiting for you to rest your weary head and give you a good night's sleep to tackle the rest of the unpacking in the morning.
