When it comes to creating dreamy photoshoots set in the countryside, Stefanie is your go-to photographer! Below she shares with you her top tips for planning and capturing such an idyllic shoot.
Get out there!
I love location scouting because it means I can get outdoors and discover new areas. Make an effort to check out any interesting spots you’ve heard about, ask your friends if they have seen any amazing looking places or just get in the car and drive in a direction you never have before. You’ll be surprised at what you will come across! When you think you’ve found a great spot pay attention to any details that might add a bit of interest to your shot. Look out for any beautiful rustic features that really grab your eye. It might be an old wooden fence, a rusty old tractor or a really amazing barn or shed! Take a few test shots of these areas to see what they look like either in camera or even just on your phone.
Gather inspiration…
With your area in mind think about what kind of feel or look you would like to achieve from your shoot. Put together a mood board or Pinterest board of images that inspire you for this particular shoot and you can use this when you are planning your styling.
Start planning…
Once you have your inspiration you can think about any styling that you might like to incorporate. It could be as simple as a vintage style dress and really natural hair and makeup or you could get together a team with a hair and makeup artist and a variety of outfits with more accessories like straw hats or fresh flowers. Draw on your inspiration and use what you have available to you. This is all part of the fun creative process.
Now shoot!
Grab some snacks and plenty of water, load your team and gear into the car with a good playlist and head off on to your location. This is a fun day out! Yes, you might get a few interested on-lookers but smile and be friendly; you never know what opportunities might arise. If you’re lucky someone might invite you onto their property or allow you to shoot with one of their horses. Keep an open mind see where the day takes you!
Have fun and take some time to breathe in that fresh country air :)
