Photoshoot: 'Dusty Attitude' by Moniek van Gils

Prepare to enter into the magical realm that is 'Dusty Attitude', a stunning bridal and ballet inspired photoshoot by the talented Moniek van Gils.

Through the blur of modern influences, the classical concepts and rules seem disappear more and more.

They throw dust in the eyes of the strict disciplined ballerina, but as a well-suited ballerina she stands high on her points and she makes her attitude graceful.

The ballet-theme is used often in bridal styled shoots. In our shoot we were looking for that little bit extra. We wanted to have contrast in this shoot.

A ballerina is beautiful and soft. Pretty and clean. So we decided to take some pictures with flour, use a flashlight and mix them all together. In the couple shoot, it’s a whole different level. 

I love to shoot with natural daylight. But for the flour images with the couple I had to use flashlight, otherwise the images were all blurry by the movement of the flour and the dancers.

The natural daylight is so beautiful with the location. We chose an industrial setting for contrast in the shoot. It’s raw and dirty. 

At the location there were different spaces that we used. With the setting in the dark corner with the window, the light is so beautiful so the couple really pop. I love the reflections.The backdrop at the stairs is creating a beautiful soft light, perfectly fitting the ballerina but also the contrast of a renovation that is going on.
